What People Say

Most Liked

Many patrons rave about the quick service and friendly staff that enhance the overall dining experience. The coney dogs are a must-try; they remain a favorite among regulars. Ice cream lovers especially enjoy the extensive selection of frozen treats, including unique offerings like German chocolate ice cream nachos. Rich and creamy milkshakes, particularly the mint variety, also receive high praise. Having a meal outdoors under the summer sun is often highlighted as a bonus, making it an ideal stop after enjoying outdoor activities. Overall, the affordability and vast variety on the menu ensure that there’s something delicious for everyone.

Most Disliked

While Mussell Beach Drive In has a loyal fan base, there are a few points of critique. The cash-only payment option can be inconvenient for some, as it requires planning ahead. Some guests have noted that the wait times can stretch during peak hours, especially on weekends when the place reaches full capacity. Limited indoor seating means that some diners might miss out on a cozy environment during busier times. Additionally, while the menu is extensive, a few customers have mentioned the desire for more vegetarian or vegan options to cater to diverse preferences. Nevertheless, these minor drawbacks do not overshadow the overall charm and quality of food available.

Good coney dogs (four ordered). Good ice cream. Ordered German chocolate ice cream nachos, chocolate cheesecake nachos, 2 dipped cones. ALL AWESOME!

Great little snack and ice cream spot off the beaten path here in Bay City. Staff was friendly and service was quick! We just got ice cream on this trip but they do appear to have more food options. Plenty to choose from for frozen sweet treats for everyone! Word to the wise, it’s CASH ONLY but you still won’t have to break the bank here. Definitely worth a trip to treat yourself on a hot summer day.

What's not to love about this place. Wonderful ice cream and the service was top notch. We had the hot fudge sundae and a minty milkshake. It's so good we are going back very soon. Especially as a reward for after a long walk at Tobico Marsh rail trail.

I have been going to Mussell Beach restaurant for decades, whether it is ice cream, or some great french fries with your choice of meat. This place is great, and the service is amazing, very friendly. If you are in the area, or staying at Bay City State Park, I highly recommend this place!

Honestly couldn’t love this place more. First place I had a meal in Michigan - and had the chance to chat with the owner - family owned and operated, a dream of his mother’s, and continuing a legacy of great food and service that we could all use these days. Sure, a burger, fries, and a shake doesn’t sound like “therapy” - but couple that with a conversation and community minded business model (it’s all fresh, everyday, all year round) - and it certainly makes one’s day better. Wish I could give them more stars - I’ll be back, at least once a week, now that I’m calling the area home - it’s that good.

Staff are very kind. They paid it forward on Labor DayWhen after a hike through the state park, me and my dog, I went for ice cream. I ordered a medium soft serve twist. I got out my credit card and was told they only took cash. I was about to leave when one of the staff said she'd cover it. Bless her heart. It was kind of a sad day being alone. My husband died 20 months ago and I'm not used to it yet. Thank you for your kindness

Delightful finish to our Bay park visit. Michigan pothole ice cream flavor was DELICIOUS. Has a quaint coney island vibe.
